Biography of Empress Elisabeth of Austria

Account of Empress Elisabeth of Austria Sovereign Elisabeth (conceived Elisabeth of Bavaria; December 24, 1837 †September 10, 1898) was one of the most well known imperial ladies in European history. Acclaimed for her extraordinary magnificence, she was likewise a negotiator who supervised the unification of Austria and Hungary. She holds the title of the longest-serving Empress of Austria ever. Quick Facts: Empress Elisabeth of Austria Full Name: Elisabeth Amalie Eugenie, Duchess in Bavaria, later Empress of Austria and Queen of HungaryOccupation: Empress of Austria and Queen of HungaryBorn: December 24, 1837 in Munich, BavariaDied: September 10, 1898 in Geneva, SwitzerlandKey Accomplishments: Elisabeth was Austria’s longest-serving sovereign. Despite the fact that she was frequently at chances with her own court, she had a unique relationship with the Hungarian individuals and was instrumental in achieving the joining of Austria and Hungary in an equivalent, double monarchy.Quote: â€Å"Oer thee, as thine own ocean birdsâ /Ill hover without rest/For me earth holds no cornerâ / To manufacture an enduring nest.† †from a sonnet composed by Elisabeth Early Life: The Young Duchess Elisabeth was the fourth offspring of Duke Maximilian Joseph in Bavaria and Princess Ludovika of Bavaria. Duke Maximilian was somewhat unpredictable and strongly more dynamic in his goals than his kindred European blue-bloods, which vigorously affected Elisabeths convictions and childhood. Elisabeth’s youth was significantly less organized than huge numbers of her illustrious and refined partners. She and her kin invested quite a bit of their energy riding in the Bavarian open country, as opposed to in formal exercises. Therefore, Elisabeth (affectionately known as â€Å"Sisi† to her family and nearest comrades) developed to favor a progressively private, less organized way of life. All through her adolescence, Elisabeth was especially near her more established sister Helene. In 1853, the sisters headed out with their mom to Austria with expectations of an unprecedented counterpart for Helene. Ludovikas sister Sophie, mother of Emperor Franz Joseph, had attempted and neglected to make sure about a counterpart for her child among significant European sovereignty and rather went to her own family. Secretly, Ludovika additionally trusted the excursion may make sure about a second marriage in the family: between Franz Joseph’s more youthful sibling, Karl Ludwig, and Elisabeth. A Whirlwind Romance and the Aftermath Genuine and devout, Helene didn't interest the 23-year-old ruler, in spite of the fact that his mom expected he would comply with her desires and propose to his cousin. Rather, Franz Joseph fell frantically enamored with Elisabeth. He demanded to his mom that he would not propose to Helene, just to Elisabeth; on the off chance that he was unable to wed her, he swore he could never wed. Sophie was profoundly disappointed, yet she in the end assented. Franz Joseph and Elisabeth wedded on April 24, 1854. The time of their commitment had been a weird one: Franz Joseph was accounted for by all to be loaded with satisfaction, however Elisabeth hushed up, apprehensive, and frequently discovered crying. A portion of this could positively be credited to the staggering idea of the Austrian court, just as the apparently domineering disposition of her auntie turned-relative. The Austrian court was strongly exacting, with decides and decorum that baffled the dynamic disapproved Sisi. Far and away more terrible was her relationship with her relative, who would not surrender capacity to Elisabeth, who she saw as a senseless young lady unequipped for being a sovereign or mother. When Elisabeth and Franz Joseph had their first youngster in 1855, the Archduchess Sophie, Sophie wouldn't permit Elisabeth to think about her own kid or even name her. She did likewise to the following little girl, Archduchess Gisela, conceived in 1856. Following Gisela’s birth, the weight expanded much further on Elisabeth to deliver a male beneficiary. A brutal leaflet was secretly left in her private chambers that proposed the job of a sovereign or ruler was uniquely to manage children, not to have political suppositions, and that a partner who didn't bear a male beneficiary would be a plotting threat to the nation. It is broadly accepted that Sophie was the source. Elisabeth endured another blow in 1857, when she and the archduchesses went with the ruler to Hungary just because. Despite the fact that Elisabeth found a profound family relationship with the more casual and clear Hungarian individuals, it was likewise the site of incredible catastrophe. Both her little girls became sick, and the Archduchess Sophie passed on, just two years of age. An Active Empress Following Sophie’s demise, Elisabeth withdrew from Gisela too. She started the fanatical excellence and physical regimens that would develop into the stuff of legend: fasting, thorough exercise, an intricate daily schedule for her lower leg length hair, and solid, firmly bound girdles. During the extended periods of time required to keep up the entirety of this, Elisabeth was not inert: she utilized this chance to get familiar with a few dialects, study writing and verse, and the sky is the limit from there. In 1858, Elisabeth at last satisfied her normal job by turning into the mother of a beneficiary: the Crown Prince Rudolf. His introduction to the world helped her benefit a bigger a dependable balance of intensity at court, which she used to talk in the interest of her adored Hungarians. Specifically, Elisabeth developed near Hungarian representative Count Gyula Andrassy. Their relationship was a nearby union and fellowship and was additionally supposed to be a relationship †to such an extent that, when Elisabeth had a fourth kid in 1868, bits of gossip twirled that Andrassy was the dad. Elisabeth was constrained away from legislative issues around 1860, when a few episodes of sick wellbeing found her, alongside stress welcomed on by the gossipy tidbits about her husband’s issue with an on-screen character. She blamed this so as to pull back from court life for quite a while; her manifestations frequently returned when she came back to the Viennese court. It was around this time she started holding fast with her significant other and relative, particularly when they needed another pregnancy †which Elisabeth didn't need. Her marriage with Franz Joseph, effectively removed, turned out to be significantly more so. She yielded, in any case, in 1867, as a vital move: by coming back to her marriage, she expanded her impact so as to push for the Austro-Hungarian Compromise of 1867, which made a double government wherein Hungary and Austria would be equivalent accomplices. Elisabeth and Franz Joseph became King and Queen of Hungary, and Elisabeth’s companion Andrassy turned into the head administrator. Her little girl, Valerie, was conceived in 1868, and turned into the object of all her mother’s repressed maternal love, once in a while to an outrageous degree. The Hungarian Queen With her new official job as sovereign, Elisabeth had more reason than any time in recent memory to invest energy in Hungary, which she happily took. Despite the fact that her relative and adversary Sophie kicked the bucket in 1872, Elisabeth frequently stayed away from court, picking rather to go and to bring Valerie up in Hungary. She beyond a reasonable doubt cherished the Magyar individuals, as they adored her, and increased a notoriety for her inclination for â€Å"common† individuals over mannered blue-bloods and retainers. Elisabeth was broken with one more catastrophe in 1889 when her child Rudolf kicked the bucket in a self destruction settlement with his fancy woman Mary Vetsera. This left Franz Josephs sibling Karl Ludwig (and, upon Karl Ludwigs demise, his child Archduke Franz Ferdinand) as the beneficiary. Rudolf had been a passionate kid, similar to his mom, who was constrained into a military childhood that sometimes fell short for him by any stretch of the imagination. Demise appeared to be wherever for Elisabeth: her dad had kicked the bucket in 1888, her sister Helene passed on in 1890, and her mom in 1892. Indeed, even her relentless companion Andrassy went in 1890. Her notoriety kept on expanding, as did her craving for security. After some time, she fixed her relationship with Franz Joseph, and the two turned out to be old buddies. Separation appeared to support the relationship: Elisabeth was voyaging broadly, however she and her significant other compared frequently. Death and Legacy Elisabeth was voyaging undercover in Geneva, Switzerland in 1898 when updates on her essence spilled. On September 10, she and a woman in-holding up were strolling to board a liner when she was assaulted by Italian revolutionary Luigi Lucheni, who needed to execute a ruler, any ruler. The injury was not apparent from the start, however Elisabeth fallen not long after boarding, and it was found that Lucheni had cut her in the chest with a slight cutting edge. She kicked the bucket very quickly. Her body was come back to Vienna for a state memorial service, and she was covered in the Capuchin Church. Her executioner was secured, attempted, and sentenced, at that point ended it all in 1910 while in jail. Elisabeth’s inheritance †or legend, contingent upon who you ask †carried on in a few different ways. Her single man established the Order of Elizabeth in her respect, and numerous landmarks and structures in Austria and Hungary bear her name. In prior stories, Elisabeth was depicted as a fantasy princess, likely in view of her tornado romance and due to the most renowned picture of her: a work of art by Franz Xaver Winterhalter that portrayed her with precious stone stars in her floor-length hair. Later life stories endeavored to reveal the profundity of Elisabeth’s life and inward clash. Her story has spellbound scholars, artists, movie producers, and then some, with many works dependent on her life discovering achievement. Rather than an unapproachable, ethereal princess, she was regularly portrayed as a complex, frequently troubled lady †a lot nearer to the real world. Sources Hamann, Brigitte. Should You Take the SAT Or The ACT

Reality is that neither the SAT nor the ACT is intrinsically a better test than the other. Which test should you take? The SAT or the ACT?   An already tough question even without the added wrench of the brand new SAT (premiering in March 2016) thrown into the equation. So if you are planning on taking standardized tests in the spring of next year or later, make sure you read on to the bottom of this post for special pros and cons concerning the Redesigned SAT. But if you are deep in the throes of the test prep battle right now and wondering what test you should take this fall or winter, boy, do we at Magoosh have some thoughts for you. Now, everyone from the College Board to your Spanish teacher to your older brother is going to have an opinion on this one, but the reality is that neither the SAT nor the ACT is intrinsically a better test than the other. However, the majority of students do better on one test over the other, and so that means you need to figure out what’s the better test for you. Hopefully, the tips below will help you sort out which test more naturally aligns with your strengths, but if you haven’t already done so, you should also make sure to take a practice test of both (or compare your PSAT and PLAN scores). Don’t just make an assumption that either the SAT or ACT is the test for you; it would be a real shame to find out later on that your hunch was wrong. On that note, let’s jump right into the pros and cons: ACT Pro: Guess Away! The ACT has never penalized students for wrong answers, which translates into a huge sigh of relief for students who fret over the decision of whether or not to answer or omit a question. The playing field, however, will be leveled in this area when the new SAT arrives: on the new test, students will no longer lose points for wrong answers. SAT Pro: Shorter Sections and Fewer Questions For students whose attention spans are all over the place, the shorter sections of the current SAT can be really appealing. You won’t spend any more than 25 minutes staring at a particular group of questions. Compare this to the ACT, which has longer sections ranging from 35 minutes on the Science and Reading to 60 minutes on Math. The current SAT also has fewer questions overall than the ACT does. And when the new SAT arrives, it will have even fewer questions. Of course the tradeoff is that many of these questions will become a bit more complex, but if test fatigue is an issue for you, this might be a significant consideration. ACT Con: Running Out of Time The ACT has more questions to answer in less time than the SAT, and many students struggle to finish, which can be discouraging. This doesn’t necessarily mean the ACT isn’t the right test for you (it might just mean that you have to work on your time management and pacing strategies), but for students who consider themselves to be slower readers or who need more time to process information, this is a serious ding against the ACT.    SAT Con: The Tricks Most students find the SAT to be quite the tricky test, laying traps for students around every corner. For wise-guys and girls, however, this can actually add to the appeal of the SAT, making it as exciting as evading a minefield on a video game (well, almost.). The ACT, on the other hand, strikes students as being a lot more like what they see in school. The questions are more straightforward and the explanations for the right answer choice make a lot of sense. ACT Pro: The Optional Essay For students who do not feel confident as writers (and aren’t gunning for colleges that require the ACT essay), it can be a nice perk to have the writing be an optional component at the end of the test instead of a required component at the beginning vampiring your energy away. Less confident writers who do need to take the essay can seek solace in the fact that the essay is not factored into the all-important composite score. The SAT essay, on the other hand, makes up 30% of a student’s writing score. (But, again, this is another way in which the SAT will become much more ACT-like starting in March. On the Redesigned SAT, the essay will be optional.) SAT Pro: Lower-Level Math The ACT tests students on a few concepts that are typically introduced in an Algebra II/Trigonometry class: including basic trig, matrices, and logarithms. The current SAT sticks to algebra and geometry, although the new SAT will branch out to higher-level concepts, including fundamental trig. ACT Con: The Science Test Some students out there LOVE the Science test. But as a tutor, I’ve encountered far more that find it utterly perplexing and way too time-pressured. The Science test, despite its name, is not really so much about science at all, so even students in AP Chemistry can find themselves scratching their heads at questions on data trends and relationships. For many of these students, Science drags down their overall composite test scores, and it is not worth the time and energy for these students to prepare for such as strange test section. SAT Con: More Complex Reading Passages This is one thing that won’t change with the Redesigned SAT. Both the current and new SAT include more demanding reading passages: the vocabulary is harder, the syntax more sophisticated, and the ideas more nuanced. It doesn’t help that SAT passages are often dry and boring (Sorry, SAT). The ACT may not be a bucket of giggles, but its reading passages are typically more entertaining and informative. And now†¦.flash-forward to March 2016: Redesigned SAT Con: Fear of the Unknown The Redesigned SAT is pretty radically different than the current SAT, which means we are treading into uncharted territory. In fact, students who take the test in March 2016 won’t get their scores until after the May 2016 administration of the test. This means that this first batch of guinea pigs will be at a disadvantage in terms of making important decisions on retakes. And even though we now have some official practice material from the College Board to work with, it’s going to take some time for students, tutors, and test prep companies to truly crack the code of the new test. Redesigned SAT Pro: Jumping Ahead of the Curve We are speculating here, but given the unfamiliarity of the new test, it is possible that students who solidly prep for the new SAT and take one of the first administrations will have a bit of an advantage over those who don’t. In other words, these well-prepped students are the ones who will have set themselves up to affect the curve. Bear in mind that I am not anticipating any major   advantage here. The students who are likely to prep for the current SAT are the same students who are likely to prep full-force for the new SAT. Neverthelesssavvy students are hoping for the best. Redesigned SAT Con: More Complicated Questions When we at Magoosh look at the new SAT math questions, we find that, while we used to be able to do pretty much everything in our heads, it would be really difficult to do so the new SAT. There are simply too many parts. And for students who find themselves reaching for their calculator on every problem, there’s an even bigger monster lurking: a calculator-free section. This means that students will not be able to rely as much on traditional test prep strategies such as plugging in numbers to solve a problem (well, at least not without a bunch of calculations), and instead will need to demonstrate true understanding of mathematical concepts and find ways to get around complex calculations. And no one is going to buy your â€Å"my monster ate my calculator† excuse. Redesigned SAT Pro: No Testing of Difficult Vocabulary Vocabulary flashcards have been a trusted friend of the dutiful SAT student for just about forever. But the new SAT will no longer routinely test students on obscure and challenging vocabulary words. There will still be some testing of vocabulary, but this will all occur within the context of reading passages. So sayonara, sentence completions. Back to the Question Increasingly, more and more students are solving the perplexing dilemma of SAT vs. ACT by not making a decision at all. Instead, they are simply taking both tests. But while there are certainly situations in which taking both test might be the right option for you, for many students, it isn’t. Taking both the SAT and ACT means dividing your energy, not to mention more Saturday mornings in a test prep center. So do everything you can to weigh the pros and cons, take practice tests to compare, maybe do a bit of practice on both, and then dive full-force into the test that is best for you. Unfortunately, your pet has passed away due to the vet not being able to fix the complications from the infection. Your pet was one result of millions of animals being tested on for cosmetic purposes. Animal testing for beauty products should be illegal in the United States because it may permanently harm an animal or kill it. However, it is okay in the rare case that animal testing is used for medical purposes. Animal testing for beauty products began as early as 1938 when makeup and all of those things became more popular. Animal testing is when live-animals undergo a test for a formula in makeup, or a chemical going into the formula to test if its harmful to human skin or eyes. Only invertebrate animals are used, like mammals. Some people think that animal testing just stops at rats/mice but, for beauty products testing it can be dogs, cats, rabbits, and monkeys. Approximately, 100,000-200,000 animals suffer and die every year as a result of animal testing for beauty products. As previously stated, animal testing is to ensure that the makeup formula or a chemical going into the makeup is not harmful to our skin and eyes. To explain it a little more, they test it for its overall toxicity. If a beauty product like shampoo, sunscreen, eyeshadow, or mascara could permanently blind a person or burn their skin off, why would they want to use it? They use it because the companys products are in demand because of popularity. Popularity like celebrity endorsements, youtubers, or Instagram stars. The company should just use less harmful chemicals in their products so that they do not have to test the products on animals. A controversy surrounding animal testing is that the animals may suffer and die as a result of the pigment is just beautiful or my winged eyeliner looks flawless. These animal testings are cruel to animals, correct? Well, the United States has animal cruelty laws in all 50 states, yet this is still legal. Some companies have already banned animal testing with their beauty products, and are trying to put an end to all of it. The beauty company LUSH. For more than 30 years, they have been fighting against animal testing. Its Cruel and ineffective, and despite some changes in the last four decades, theres still so much more to be done, says the LUSH company. This company advertises for animal testing awareness on all of their products like bags, packaging, and even on the receipts. In Europe, India, Israel, and Norway animal testing for cosmetics are banned. One good thing that has come out of animal testing, is animal testing for medical purposes. Due to animals and people being able to get the same illnesses some research is very beneficial to humankind. All medical research is planned out, and experts only use animal experimentation for urgent purposes. Scientists do try to keep the welfare of the animal in mind as they are experimenting, which means a small number of an applicable species can be used. Veterinarians are an essential part of the medical research team. The veterinarians make sure that the animal is being treated humanely and they also provide the medical/surgical support. The animals are protected through laws, regulations, and policies to provide humane treatment to all of the animals in the research. The Public Health Service Policy on Humane Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, the Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals, and the Animal Welfare Act give details about day-to-day animal care. Some good examples of animal testing for medical research would be on dogs to discover insulin for people with diabetes, monkeys for the polio vaccine, pigs for skin grafts for burn victims, and mice for a rabies vaccine. Many people are against animal testing for beauty-products but, of course, we have people that would love to say that it is okay. Animals are a great way to further research on humans. This makes sense but, not all animals have the genetic makeup of a human. That means that these innocent animals that are not similar to humans were just inhumanely slaughtered all in the name of research. If scientists would like to discover more about humans, they could find some humans that have no problem being tested on. Some people believe that animal testing is cheaper than others. This is also false. The USA spends $16 million dollars annually for animal testing at the taxpayers dollar. Animal testing with beauty products is a short and fast process. The process to test if a companys eyeliner is not harmful, takes a while because they have to wait for the animals eyes or skin to get red, irritate, or burn. Chemicals are left on animals for up to 2 weeks to make sure all the side effects or infections are caught in the research before sending the product out in the market. Some alternative methods for animal testing are Computer models, Cells and tissue cultures, and Alternative organisms. The first method, Computer models. Computers can help to understand basic biology. There are computer generated simulations that can predict various biological and toxic effects of a chemical drug without animal testing. A common know software is Computer Aided Drug Design (CADD) which is used to identify the probable binding site and hence avoids testing of unwanted chemicals having no biological activity. Then when results are found, instead of putting animals through the whole process of testing, they can be used in the final stage for confirmation. The second method is the Cells and tissue cultures. The use of in vitro cell and tissue cultures which involve the growth of cells outside the body in a laboratory environment which can be an important alternative for animal experiments. Cells and tissue from the animals different organisms are taken out and can be stored outside if the body for months or even years. The chemical or formulas can then be tested on the cell or tissue and can see the reaction. The benefits correlated with these techniques are easy to follow, less time consuming, and less expensive. These methods are usually used for screening of a potential drug or chemical to check the toxicity. The third method is Alternative Organisms. The whole reason for using animal testing is to use animals with vertebrates, as stated before. So in this case, scientists could use alternative organisms like lower vertebrates, Danio rerio, this fish has a transparent body which gives easy visual access the internal anatomy. Another organism would be invertebrates, Drosophila melanogaster, also known as the fruit fly. This genome is a very common invertebrate studied in science. In Conclusion, animal testing should be illegal for beauty products because it harms the animals permanently, damages their eyesight or skin, and could potentially kill the animal if the chemical is harsh enough. If the chemical is that harmful, to begin with then those chemicals should not be distributed on the market. Using alternative methods would help the human population and keep all the animals safer. The exception to animal testing would only be for medical research to help the human race due to some animals containing the same genomes or genetic makeup as humans do.

The Legalization of Gay Marriage Essay - 2475 Words

Ask any American what values founded this country and you will get very similar responses: Liberty, Freedom, or justice. These values are instilled in each American and come as naturally to us as the air we breath, or do they? Just as women fought for suffrage, and African Americans in the civil rights movement, homosexuals battle for the right to marry. This issue is affecting Americans on several levels. Politically, gay marriage is one of the hot issues that public officials are asked to take a position on. Legally, matters of jurisdiction have caused uncertainty on whether a couple of the same sex will be recognized should they decide to move. Socially, America is still in turmoil due to how strongly both the†¦show more content†¦Homosexuals have the right to marry in five states: Connecticut, Iowa, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Vermont. Leaving 45 states either unclear, such as California, which granted gay marriage in June of 2008 which was then appealed in N ov. 2008, or to ban gay marriage, such as Florida and Arizona. New York, Rhode Island and Maryland ban same sex marriage, but recognize unions from other jurisdictions (Badgett 2). This uncertainty began with the Defense of marriage act or DOMA. In 1996, President Bill Clinton passed the Defense of Marriage Act, a federal law defining marriage as a legal union between one man and one woman. Section 2 of the act gave states the ability not to recognize same sex unions from other jurisdictions, while section 3 was even more controversial. It was the section that prohibited the federal government from recognizing any same sex union. This was the the first of many judicial acts that would cause the hazy view of same sex marriage in America. On February 23, 2011 President Barack Obama stated section 3 to be unconstitutional, taking a momentous step toward equality. However, the issue is far from resolved on the state level (Savage and Stolberg 3). When have such separate and oppos ing views been allowed between states? Answer: Introduction In this competitive market, global business marketing provides an opportunity for the business organizations to sustain in the competitive market. After a certain time, the domestic market becomes saturated for the business organization thereby, hampering the overall revenue and business. The business organization develops and implements international marketing in order to ensure growth for their company. Global business marketing allows the business organizations to create new market along with increasing their customer base thereby, increasing the annual revenue. This report introduces the PESTLE analysis of Russia, as Ugg Australia aim towards globally expanding their business to Russia. Overview of Ugg Australia Australian Leather Pty Ltd is a footwear manufacturing company that is manufacturing ugg boots since early 1990. The Sydney manufacturer uses sheepskins to manufacture the boots and is estimated to manufacture more than 50,000 pairs of boots annually. An estimated cost of the Australian leather ugg boots is $89 ("Australian Ugg Boots Pty Ltd", 2017). However, the Sydney manufacturer of ugg boots is facing a legal battle with a global American footwear company that is preventing the Sydney manufacturer to use the name ugg (Cormack, 2017). The court has taken legal action against the Sydney ugg boots manufacturer in the favour of the Deckers Corporation partnered American ugg footwear manufacturer. However, the owner of the Sydney ugg boot manufacturer has stated that they are nothing like the American ugg footwear. Due to the clash of the name ugg, the global American Ugg manufacturers have shut down several Australian small manufacturers of ugg boots ("Ugg Boots | Uggs | Australian U GG | Sheepskin Boots ~ Jumbo Ugg", 2017). The Australian Leather Pty Ltd has aimed towards globally expanding their business to Russia, as the Australian market has become saturated due to the rise of various small ugg boot manufacturers. The Ugg Australia predicts competitive advantage and business growth by expanding the business internationally to Russia. PESTLE Analysis of Russia Ugg Australia conducts a PESTLE analysis in order to analyse the external environment of Russia thereby, judging the suitability and predicting the success of the global expansion. The PESTLE analysis of Russia is furnished below: Political Russia is federation of Russia with semi-presidential republic Open foreign relationship strategy Russia had official relationship with 191 countries and 144 embassies until 2009 The political side takes the main role of running the business of the entire country. Economic Russia is greatly dependent on the natural resources, that is, oil and gas. The GDP of Russia ranks 10th in the world economy In respect to agriculture, Russia is considered the 4th largest Constantly growing economy Social Russia is highly affected by HIV and alcohol poisoning Russia is well-known for literature, music, ballet, philosophers, and sports Unevenly distributed population throughout Russia Russias society health is negatively affected due to health conditions, diseases and depressions. Technological Rich in science tradition Russia is the first country to sent people in space Russia has paid more attention to developing advanced technology such as Rosnano and Nanotechnology Russia surprised the entire world by their advanced aerospace engineering. Legal The legal structure facilitates foreign investors Biased courts Judiciary suffers from state interference and corruption Russia ranks 3rd in terms of the pending human rights cases in the European Court Environmental Government has taken initiative to reduce pollution Low water quality along with poor agricultural practices Higher rate of carbon emission Degradation of natural resource base Political: Russia has become the federation of the semi-presidential republic in 12th December 1993. Since Putins president ship in 2000, Russia has encountered several changes in the political system thereby, becoming active on the international stage. Therefore, the legislative and the political power of Russia are centralized and are shared between the Prime Minister and President of the country. The political nature of the country influences opens foreign relationship strategy. As a result, no difference is present between the national and international foreign investors. Until 2009, Russia had an official relationship with 191 countries and 144 embassies that facilitated business. The political department of the country holds the main role thereby, regulating the entire business of the country (Brovkin, 2015). Economic: The economy of Russia is unpredictable and highly volatile. Russia is greatly dependent on the natural resources such as the price of the crude oil. Due to the decline in the oil prices and trade wars between the US and the Europe, Russia encountered recession in 2014 and 2015. Though considered as a developed country, Russia has unstable economic parameters such as labour productivity. Russia has the 10th largest economy in the world and the 4th largest agriculture (Malle, 2013). The 2008 recession largely affected the economy and Russia encountered an adverse financial crisis. Reports suggest that the annual GDP growth for Russia in 2008 was 5.24% but declined drastically to -7.281% due to the recession. However, the spontaneous and active actions by the Central Bank and the Government, Russia uplifted the declining economy by 2014. The International Monetary Fund and the Central Bank predicts that Russia will be able to resume the normal GDP by 2017 (Lipman et al., 2012). Social: Russia is well known for its contribution to literature, philosophies, music, ballet, and sports. However, Russia has unevenly distributed population, as the western and the southern part of the country are densely populated. Russia is one of the largest countries in the world covering approximately 16 million square kilometers with different time and climate zones. The Russian population encounters severe health issues due to alcohol poisoning, HIV, heart conditions, and depressions. The average life expectancy in Russia is lower than 70.9 years that is expected to increase due to a healthier lifestyle (Dias, 2013). Technological: Russia is extremely rich in science tradition and culture and is one of the first countries that sent people to space. Russia has greatly emphasized in developing advanced technology such as Rosnano and Nanotechnology and has surprised the world by their advanced aerospace engineering successfully. Russia ranks 62nd among 138 countries in terms of the technological readiness and is ranked 56th in terms of innovations (Wcislo, 2014). Compared to the other OCED countries, 10% of the Russian companies are reported to use technological advancements. Digitalization and extensive use of the internet have changed the traditional way of doing business for Russia. More than 70 million Russian business organizations use internet for business thereby, providing endless opportunity for the companies. However, on the contrary, in terms of using technology in education, Russia has failed to reach the standard of the European countries (Lee, Speight Loyalka, 2014). Legal: The strength and independence of the rule of law are considered poor in Russia compared to other countries in the world. The legal system and judiciary of Russia suffer corruption and state interferences thereby, resulting in biased courts. However, the legal structure of Russia highly facilitates foreign investors. Russia ranks 3rd in terms of the pending human rights cases in the European Court (Epifanova et al., 2015). According to the Constitutional Court of Russia, the decisions of the international court can be overruled if they fail to correspond with the Russian Constitution. Compared to the state agencies, the inter-firm court rulings are much fairer (Boussena Locatelli, 2013). Environmental: As Russia is highly dependent on the natural resources such as oil and gases, it is predicted that the country would exhaust the natural resources completely very soon. Russia has low water quality thereby, resulting in poor agricultural practices. Russia has a higher rate of carbon emission that results in global warming, dangerous weather events. Considering the higher rate of environmental impact, the Government of Russia has developed policies that address climate change, environmental sustainability and issues (Jorgens, 2012). Doing business in Russia After conducting the PESTLE analysis, it can be said that Russia is a suitable country for global market expansion for Ugg Australia. The partnership between World Trade Organization and Russian Federation facilitates business for the foreign investors and companies (Zhao, 2012). The steady recovery of the Russian economy from the hard-hit recession provides many opportunities for Ugg Australia to commence business in the country. Additionally, the suitable political and legal structure of Russia also provides a suitable business opportunity for Ugg Australia, as Russia does not distinguish between national and international business organizations (Cavusgil, Ghauri Akcal, 2012). Additionally, the technological advancements of Russia are also a justified reason for Ugg Australia to expand globally their business in the country. Ugg Australia needs to implement franchising entry mode for entering the Russian market. The franchising entry mode strategy will provide an opportunity for g lobally to minimize the risk of growth and expanding their capital easily (Ardichvili et al., 2012). Conclusion In this report, it can be concluded that Ugg Australia is a Sydney based ugg boot manufacturer that is facing legal issues with the internationally recognized American Ugg footwear. However, the owner of Ugg Australia has claimed that they have no similarity with the American ugg footwear manufacturer. Ugg Australia aim towards globally expanding their business to Russia due to saturated home country market and sustain in the competitive market. The analysis of the external environment of Russia suggested that the country is suitable for global expansion for Ugg Australia due to stable and encouraging political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental scenarios. Living In Utopia Essays - Utopian Novels, Utopia, Utopian Fiction

Living In Utopia Living in Utopia Private property is abolished in Utopia, and society is communally organized in such a way that there is no shortage and that everyone has work, food, a home and opportunities for cultural expression. Sounds great, eh? Would you like to live there, and if not, why? Your answer should take account of More's context (why he wrote Utopia?) and should be supported by reference to the text. In Thomas More's Utopia life is very structured there is no crime or prejudices. The people live everyday the same as the last. They dress the same, live in houses that are all designed the same, have very strictly scheduled workdays, and very regulated family life. Whatever you may think of their doctrines, you won't find a more prosperous country or a more splendid lot of people anywhere on earth. In Utopia there is no such thing as private property so there is no crime. Everyone has what they need and can get anything that they need without complications. Money is not existent therefore when the people of Utopia need groceries or any other necessities they go to the store and get what they need. This is why there is no crime; everyone is welcome to help themselves to other people's belongings. All of the houses consist of a front door, which leads to the street, and a back door that leads into a garden. These doors are double swing-doors that open easily and close behind you. The homes consist of these types of swinging doors so that anyone can go in and out when they please. Not only are all the houses designed the same but all the people also dress alike. Everyone wears the same sort of clothes-except that they vary slightly according to sex and marital status. Their fashion never changes either therefore there are no tailors or dressmakers. The outfits are very simple and loose. They don't need to be wearing anything fancy because everyone looks the same. The working days are scheduled to a tee. The people must work six-hour days, three hours in the morning, and then they get lunch. After lunch they get a two-hour break then they have to finish off their workday with three more hours in the afternoon. After work everyone goes home for supper and then they have some free time. Bedtime is 8 o'clock sharp and everyone must sleep for eight hours. The time that is not already planned out for them, they are free to do whatever they want, but this time must be used wisely. The family organization is quite interesting considering they actually keep track of the amount of people in your home. There is a law that states that no household shall consist of less than ten or more than sixteen adults. When two people get married, the woman moves to live with her husband's family. The boys must stay in their homes to live under the control of their oldest male relative. Utopia can be considered the perfect world, the people are all happy and everyone gets along. At one point in the book Utopia is actually referred to as Happiland, which it may truly be. Living in a world with no crime and therefore no worries of murder, rape, and burglary would be such a great place to live. Their time schedules even sound pretty relaxing compared to my own. On the other hand they must do the same thing everyday, I would need to make some change in my life once in a while. I think living in a community where the houses are all uniform and everyone dresses alike would seem so boring. I don't understand how people would be able to live in a life where nothing is ever different. From what I have heard More made up this Happiland and some people may think that it sounds like a great place to live. In my own opinion I don't feel a place like Utopia could possibly exist. To my mind, it's not only the best country in the world, but the only one that has any right to call i tself a republic. This may be one of the

Its Good Business Essay Example

Its Good Business Essay Example Its Good Business Essay Its Good Business Essay It’s Good Business: Robert Solomon In â€Å"It’s Good Business†, Robert Solomon, a philosophy professor at University of Texas, explores the fundamentals and significance of practicing good business ethics in decision making. He tackles the correlation between understanding ethics and doing a better job, and the direct implications of not taking the value of right moral into account. In addition, he explicates the myth of amoral business. Lastly, he presents the three C’s of Business ethics and the eight essential rules for ethical thinking in business. In this essay, I will explain and cite examples why I agree or disagree with Robert Solomon’s point of views about business and business ethics. Some of his claims that I will discuss are â€Å"Good Ethics is Good Business†, â€Å"unethical conduct hurts business as a whole†, and â€Å"business is not fundamentally amoral or immoral. Business is not blind scramble for profits and survival but rather established practice with firmly fixed rules and expectations, and people in business are professionals†. According to Robert Solomon, â€Å"Good Ethics is Good Business† and â€Å"unethical conduct hurts business as a whole†. I agree with his point of view because in the previous years, we have witnessed the fall down of the â€Å"big companies† due to their unethical practice. The demise of Enron, Adelphia Communications Corporation, WorldCom is an example that a business without good ethics will not exists for too long. I also agree that being aware of the 3C’s, which are Compliance, Contributions, and Consequences, is the best tool to define Good Ethics in Business. He used Break Breaker Inc. case to prove that unethical business strategy will lead to the quick demise of business. Break Breaker Inc. o some extent comply with legal rules, but failed to comply with principles of morality and community, contribute to the society by producing honest high quality services, and account the consequence of damaging their reputation. Internally, the treatment to the employees is very harsh that results to high turnover due to burnout. The company also lied to the customers in order to earn profit. Apparently, Break Breaker Inc. is not aware of this 3C’s and the value of good ethics in Business. Just like other large corporation discussed above, Break Breaker Inc. ill not be successful because once the customers’ trust is ruined and business reputation is damage through deceiving, it will be extremely hard to gain those trust again. Therefore, good ethics is good business. Johnson and Johnson â€Å"Tylenol Murder Case in 1982† also exemplifies Robert Solomon claims that good ethics is good business. The Tylenol poisoning that caused the death of some consumer in Chicago was done outside their premise. However, the company decided to spend millions of dollars to protect the consumer. They did a massive recall worth $100 million dollars, and paid millions of dollars for advertising to inform consumer about the incident. Using the cost-benefit analysis, Johnson and John will be better off if they only consider the short-term, just like in the case of â€Å"Ford Pinto†. But the company decided to do what is ethically right, and that is to protect the consumer regardless how much it will cost them in the present. As a result, Johnson and Johnson gain trust of the consumer despite what happen and Tylenol is still the leading pain relief over the counter medicine.

Enterprise Resource Planning Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Enterprise Resource Planning - Essay Example Although the concepts and intricate details discussed under Materials Requirements Planning (MRP) and Capacity Requirements Planning (CRP) are equally crucial in ensuring that the operations of an organization are managed at the most cost efficient manner, the last three concepts identified in the chapter were deemed more challenging because these software programs solicit relevant data and information that affect an organization’s operations both from internal and external sources. ERP, for instance, was revealed to organize and manage the organization’s processes through the sharing of relevant and crucial information across functional areas (Russell and Taylor, 2009, 668). CRM, on the other hand, is an application of ERP that focuses on customer interaction thereby require expertise and professionalism in managing clientele. This is most challenging because when customers are taken into consideration, there is a need to closely evaluate the profile of the organizatio n’s clients including needs, purchase behavior, buying capacities, among others. There is no exact and constant customer profile as this element changes over time depending on other external factors in the environment that influence it (including the economic status, competition, the 4Ps).

Two Types of Groups in Society Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Two Types of Groups in Society - Essay Example The people that I work with have been participating in the volunteer group since its inception. The second primary group I belong too is the card playing group. Typically such a group would be considered a secondary group, but in my case, it is a primary group because all the members of the group are immediate or extended family members. We meet every Saturday from 6:00 P.M to midnight to play cards while enjoying a home cook meal and a few drinks. These two primary groups are very important to me because they help me engage in social activities that I value. The primary groups provide me with moral support. I usually discuss my problems with my church buddies and with my family member during our meetings. Both groups are important for me and I value their existence. Secondary groups also serve a social purpose in life. The main difference between the primary and secondary group is that the person that compose the group are acquaintances or people we know such as co-workers. Also, these types of groups seem to be temporary. A secondary group I currently belong too is a team that formulated in school to complete a classroom project. The members of the group are fellow students who I just recently met. My behavior and the behavior of the other members of the group are impersonal. Our objective is to complete the classroom project on time and to get the best grade possible with the minimum requirement being that we obtain a passing grade. A second secondary group I belong to with a subgroup within my Facebook account. There are many secondary groups that a person can enter when they sign up for a social network. After the Haiti earthquake joined a secondary Facebook group called â€Å"Help for Haiti†.

Tti Case Study Essay Example for Free

Tti Case Study Essay TTI is located in Fort Worth, Texas and operates as a specialty distributor of passive, interconnect, and discrete components. â€Å"TTI’s mission is to be the most preferred electronics distributor for their customers and suppliers, deliver the right parts exactly on time, and to exceed their internal and external customer requirements through continuous improvement, while providing a home for hardworking, dedicated, knowledgeable, and ethical people who believe in this Company and this philosophy. † (TTI, Website, 2011) Within this case study we are reviewing the potential effects that TTI would be faced with if they decided to place a Distribution Center (DC) in Asia. From the case study we learn that TTI saw two separate marketing trends on the horizon. The two trends Craig Conrad, Vice President of Sales for TTI, toiled with were that of globalization and customer demand for local inventory to just-in-time objectives. Paul Andrews, founder and president of TTI, and Conrad both were aware that some customers believed TTI needed a foreign presence. Globalization within TTI’s customer base was rapidly growing as was the expectation from the customers for TTI to become global distributor. Andrew’s main concern with placing a DC in Asia was that TTI would stretch their resources to thin leading to damaged customer service. In the 1990’s TTI had opened sales branches in Europe, Canada, and Latin America. A DC was opened in Munich, but did not share the same success as the Fort Worth DC. This caused management to rethink the potential of opening other international DC’s. During this time the auto replenishment process was on the rise, but TTI management feared that this process could not service customers overseas. The case study specifically sites these three concerns management had: 1. How much would the new facility and personnel cost? 2. Would TTI’s culture of excellence be maintainable in the foreign market? 3. Would the local market support the cost of the new facility? In particular, how much business required a local presence (VMI) as opposed to how much could be done form Fort Worth or Munich? TTI was seeing Asia quickly become the fastest growing electronics market during the 1990’s and customers wanted to carry their operations overseas while maintaining the VMI and auto replenishment process that TTI had developed in this US. Because of the limited success TTTI had experienced in the previously mentioned ventures this caused great concern. However, as stated in the case, VMI and Auto replenishment made up 50% of TTI’s business and it was critical that they weight their options carefully. TTI knew that customers were moving toward globalization and that Asia was a hot spot for this move. This forced TTI to evaluate the possibility of creating a DC in Asia which had the potential to eventually generate 20% of TTI’s overall sales. Some strategic suppliers TTI had long standing relationships with had already moved to China and the Philippines. If TTI did not set up a local DC in Asia this meant the company was looking at accruing an additional 10% shipping charge per product and that was just for a one way shipment. The challenge for Conrad was to make sure that the overall expense of opening the new DC would not cost more than overseas shipping charges. The other concern Paul Andrews had was whether or not the locals in Asia could operate under the same cooperate structure that was established in the US. If the same cooperate culture could not be met then Andrews would not consider opening the DC in Asia. The three locations TTI considered for establishing this DC were Hong Kong, Singapore, and Malaysia. Each location had different benefits. Hong Kong was most favorable due to its logistical location. Singapore also had a very favorable location and English was the primary language for the locals. Malaysia was the least expensive of the three, but had the worst logistical position. Selecting the right location was critical to the future success of TTI. In an article written by Karl Heil, he explains the importance of proper location selection. â€Å"If a company selects the wrong location, it may have adequate access to customers, workers, transportation, materials, and so on. Consequently, location often plays a significant role in a companys profit and overall success. A location strategy is a plan for obtaining the optimal location for a company by identifying company needs and objectives, and searching for locations with offerings that are compatible with these needs and objectives. Generally, this means the firm will attempt to maximize opportunity while minimizing costs and risks. † (Heil, 2011) Based off of the comparison chart provided in the case study the location that best maximized the opportunity as well has minimized the cost was the Singapore location. The comparison chart clearly showed Singapore to have the most cost effective location. Hong Kong was competitive, but what really set the two apart was the overall facilities cost. Malaysia’s facility cost was half that of Singapore, however the logistical costs were extremely high. The other benefit that I felt set Singapore apart was the native language. Creating a new DC location was going to be enough of a challenge without having to overcome a language barrier. The fact that English was the native tongue is invaluable for this process. With Singapore being the selected location the next logical step would be to implement a road map on how to set up the new DC. Gross Associates is a firm that specifically helps companies through this process. On the web-site of Gross Associates define the following five steps to assist with the process. â€Å"Determine the requirements the new facility must satisfy. Determine the feasible alternatives to satisfy the projected business requirements. Analyze the viable alternatives, including both quantitative and qualitative aspects. Make and document the rationale for decisions and finally implementation. † (Donald J. Derewecki, 2033) With the rapid growth of globalization I would absolutely have to consider opening a DC in Asia. With suppliers making the move over seas as well as customers it is a natural fit for distribution companies to also make the move. Competitors of TTI were making the jump and if TTI did not follow they were poised to lose a lot of business. Going back to TTI’s mission statement at the beginning of this case study the term â€Å"continuous improvement† was stated. For TTI to continually improve they needed to open the Asian DC.
